What is Magnesium Hypobromite?
Description
Because of the instability of the hypobromite anion, magnesium hypobromite is always supplied as a solution. Although the pH could be raised by the addition of NaOH or the like, the resulting solution is no more stable than NaClO (which is cheaper and easier to prepare). Thus, although the magnesium salt can be prepared to form a stable solution, the solid form cannot be isolated from solution. This accounts for its limited usage in Industry.Magnesium hypobromite is available commercially in limited quantities. Magnesium hypobromite is available commercially in limited quantities.
