What is virosecurinine?

Description

Obtained from Securinega virosa Pax et Hoffm., this tetracyclic alkaloid forms light yellow crystals from EtOH and is strongly dextrorotatory with[α]D + 1148° (c 0.4, CHCL3). The salts are well crystalline and include the hydrochloride, m.p. 211-3°C; [α]D + 388° (c 0.3, EtOH); nitrate, m.p. 211-3°C (dec.); [α]D + 330° (c 0.3, EtOH) and the methiodide, m.p. 239-241°C (dec).
