What is Tribasic barium orthoarsenate?
Description
Tribasic barium orthoarsenate, Ba3(AsO4)2, is formed as large colorless plates when a mixture of barium oxide, alkali chloride and alkali hydrogen orthoarsenate is fused at about 750°C and allowed to cool. Early work concerning barium arsenates and their formation from solution did not control the pH of the solution (If the pH is controlled around 9.0, the dibasic compound results but the tribasic compound is obtained at pH> 11.0). As a result, mixtures of compounds usually resulted.
