What is The dihydrogen arsenate?
Description
The dihydrogen arsenate,Ca(H2AsO4)2 is sparingly soluble in cold water and is decomposed by hot water, yielding the monohydrogen salt and arsenic acid. Calcium dihydrogen orthoarsenate has been obtained in the form of a monohydrate by adding nitric acid to a mixture containing equal proportions of calcium carbonate and arsenious oxide and allowing the solution to crystallize.
Physical properties
Its molecular weight is 319.93 g/mol. The dihydrogen arsenate occurs in Nature as “Svenekite”.
Preparation
The dihydrogen arsenate may also be prepared by adding excess of arsenic acid to calcium carbonate or to the normal or monohydrogen orthoarsenate. It forms colorless plates which lose their water at 180 and at 360°C to yield calcium metaa¨rsenate, Ca(AsO3)2, as a crystalline mass, insoluble in hydrochloric acid.
