What is Cypress Oil?
Chemical properties
Cypress oil is produced by steamdistillation of terminal branches of Cupressus
sempervirens L. (Cupressaceae). It is a liquid with a wood-like odor that has an ambergris note.

This oil is produced in the Mediterranean region (Spain, France) in a quantity
of some 10 t/yr. Its major components are α-pinene and 3-carene. Degradation
products of higher terpenoids are responsible for the typical ambergris note.
The Uses of Cypress Oil
cypress oil is said to have antiseptic, astringent, healing, soothing, and anti-spasmodic properties. Cypress oil is also claimed to be useful in treating acne and in inhibiting oil gland secretion. It can also be used as a fragrance. This oil, which can range from clear to yellow to brown, is generally obtained from a distillation of cypress cones.
