What is BROMOCHLOROPHEN?

Physical properties

Bromochlorophene solubility (g/L) in different solvents is as follows: water less than 0.01, 95% ethanol 0.5, propanol 0.7, isopropanol 0.4, propylene glycol 2.5, paraffin oil 0.05.

The Uses of BROMOCHLOROPHEN

Bromochlorophene is used as a microbicide in cosmetics, e.g., deodorants, mouthwashes, and toothpastes.

Preparation

Bromochlorophene is produced by bromination of 2,2'-methylenebis(4-chlorophenol) in glacial acetic acid in the cold. 

Toxicity evaluation

LD50 (oral, rat) 3700 mg/kg, LD50 (oral, mouse) 1550 mg/kg, LD50 (dermal, rat) > 10000 mg/kg. Bromochlorophene does not irritate the skin and there is no evidence of sensitization.
