Benzyl butyl ether is occasionally used in perfume compositions, mostly for soap fragrances, where the stability and power of this ether can be advantageous, or in industrial fragrances, low-cost detergent perfumes, etc. Used in flavor compositions, mostly in fruit flavors.
Preparation
Obtained in mixture by heating benzyl alcohol and butyl alcohol in the presence of sulfuric acid or sodium bisulfate.
