What is VOCAMINE?

Description

The trunk bark and powdered roots of Voacanga africana yield this dimeric alkaloid which is laevorotatory with [α]D - 52° (c 1.0, CHCI3). It forms colourless prisms or needles from MeOH-Me2CO and is soluble in CHC13 or Me2CO, less so in MeOH or EtOH. Three methoxyl groups have been shown to be present in the molecule.
