What is VlNDOLININE?

Description

A hexacyclic alkaloid present in Vinca rosea L., the base forms colourless crystals and has [α]D - 18° (H20). It yields a dihydrochloride, m.p. 250-2°C; [α]²⁰_D - 26.8° (c 0.24, H20) and a picrate, m.p. 268-272°C. The alkaloid also form the N-acetyl derivative and on catalytic hydrogenation yields the dihydro compound. The structure has been established on the basis of the mass spectral fragmentation pattern and NMR measurements.
