What is VERATRENONE ?

Description

One of a large number of alkaloids isolated from Veratrum album L. var. grandi[lorum Maxima, this base has the ketonic structure shown above which has been elucidated from chemical and spectroscopic evidence. The base has a specific rotation of [α]D + 60.5° (EtOH) and gives an ultraviolet spectrum in EtOH with one absorption maximum at 240 nm. Veratrenone is of importance in that it represents the transition stage between the Fritillaria and the ceveratrum alkaloids.
