What is Valerianine?

Description

A pyridine type alkaloid present in Valeriana officinalis L., the base is laevo_x0002_rotatory with [α]20D - 10.5° (c 0.37, MeOH) and gives an ultraviolet spectrum having two absorption maxima at 261 and 269Mu. The structure has been confirmed by the total synthesis of the alkaloid.
