What is TITANIUM(IV) BROMIDE?
Chemical properties
Orange low melting lumps and powder
The Uses of TITANIUM(IV) BROMIDE
Titanium(IV) bromide is used as a Lewis acid catalyst in organic synthesis. It reacts with tetrahydrofurnan and 2-methylpyridine and forms adducts such as TiBr4(THF)2 and TiBr4(2-MePy). It is also used for the formation of titanium silicide thin films on silicon substrates.
Purification Methods
Purify it by distillation. The distillate forms light orange hygroscopic crystals. Store it in the dark under N2 preferably in sealed brown glass ampules. [Olsen & Ryan J Am Chem Soc 54 2215 1932.]
