Tin(II) telluride is used as detector material for photodiodes in infrared used spectral range.

The Uses of TIN (II) TELLURIDE

Tin Telluride (SnTe) is a IV-VI semiconductor with an energy band gap of 0.18 eV at 300K. It can be used as a thermoelectric material, which can be used in the conversion of heat into electricity. It can be doped with indium and calcium to achieve a thermoelectric figure of merit, ZT of ~1.65 at 840 K and a power factor of ~47 μW cm-1 K-2.
