STRICTOSIDINE Structural

What is STRICTOSIDINE?

Description

The leaves of Rhazya stricta Decaisne and R. orientalis contain this complex carboline alkaloid which has been proposed as a key intermediate in the bio_x0002_synthesis of the related indole alkaloids. It is obtained in the form of a light yellow amorphous solid with no definite melting point. Three non-phenolic hydroxyl groups and two imino groups are present and the base yields a pentaacetyl derivative. It has been suggested that the alkaloid may be identical with Vincoside (q.v.).
