What is STEPHOLINE?
Description
A bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid, this base is found in Formosan Stephania japonica. It has [α]19D + 273° (CHCI3) and yields the following crystalline derivatives: the dimethiodide, obtained with 3.5 H20 of crystallization, m.p. 27l-3°C (dry, dec.); the O,O-dimethyl ether, m.p. 182°C identical with isotetrandrine and the O,O-diethyl ether, m.p. 203-4°C; [α]23D + 86.17° (CHCI3)·
