What is Sprintillamine?

Description

An alkaloid present in Helleborus viridis L., the base forms silky needles. It is a tertiary base and yields a crystalline hydrochloride, m.p. 287 _8° C (dec.) and a methiodide, m.p. 251-2°e. It contains a methylimino groups but no methoxyl groups. Pharmacologically, it appears to belong to the aconitine class in that it paralyzes the bulbospinal centres. Unlike the aconitines, however, it shows a marked phase of respiratory stimulation.
