What is RUWENINE?

Description

A pyrrolizidine alkaloid isolated from Senecio ruwenzoriensis, this base is soluble in all common organic solvents but only slightly so in H20. It forms a crystalline hydrochloride, m.p. 222-4°C; a nitrate that decomposes gradually from 100-160° C and a picrate, m.p. l86-8°C. The structure is not yet known with certainty.
