What is RUPICOLINE?
Description
The leaves of Tabernaemontana rupicola Benth. yield this alkaloid which crystallizes from MeOH with solvent of crystallization. It is optically inactive and the ultraviolet spectrum shows absorption maxima at 228 and 410 mμ. with a shoulder at 260 rrIJ.1. The hydrochloride forms colourless crystals from isopropanol, m.p. 265°C (dec.); [α]25.2D - 228° (c 1.21, H20). The structure has been established on the basis of the infrared and NMR spectra.
