By cold formylation of rhodinol from geranium (Arctander, 1969).
Metabolism
Open-chain olefinic terpene esters are presumably hydrolysed to the alcohol and the acid (Fassett, 1963). In the rabbit, the open-chain terpenes undergo ω-oxidation (Williams, 1959).
