What is OVIGERINE?
Description
The bark of Hernandia ovigera L. yields several alkaloids, among them being this amorphous base. The ultraviolet spectrum is typical of the noraporphine alkaloids with absorption maxima at 234, 270 and 317 mil. The crystalline hydrochloride, m.p. 300°C (dec.), has [α]D+ 177° (H20). N-Methylovigerine (q.v.) has also been isolated from the same source.
