What is ORMOJANINE?
Description
A hexacyclic alkaloid present in Orrnosia /arnaicensis Urb., this base yields trans_x0002_parent prisms when crystallized from petroleum ether. It is laevorotatory with [α] 20D- 144° (c 0.75, EtOH) and gives an ultraviolet spectrum which exhibits a single absorption maximum at 212.5 m/J.. The alkaloid yields a diperchlorate as colourless prisms from EtOH, m.p. 256-7°C (dec.) and a tripicrate, needles from Me2CO, m.p. 169-170°C. The structure has been determined primarily from the mass spectrum.
