What is OCOTEA CYMBARUM?

Chemical properties

Brazilian sassafras oil was obtained by steam distillation of the roots, trunks, and branches of Ocotea pretiosa (Nees)Mez. (Lauraceae), a tree growingwild in Southern Brazil.
The main component of the oil was safrole, which may make up more than 90% of the oil. Due to a ruinous exploitation, the Brazilian government placed restrictions on cutting of O. pretiosa trees, so that Brazilian sassafras oil is not available any longer.
