What is O-(2-PYRROL YLCARBONYL)-VIRGILINE?

Description

This alkaloid occurs in the leaves of Readea rnernbranaceae Gillespie and the branchlets of Virgilia croboidea (Berg.) Salter, crystallizing from EtOH as colourless plates. It is laevorotatory with [α]20D - 23° (c 2.398, CHCI3). The hydrochloride forms needles from a mixture of Me2CO and EtOH. The melting point of this salt has been given as 237-8°C (dec.) by Manchanda and 293°C (dec.) by White. On hydrolysis, the alkaloid yields Virgiline (q.v.) and pyrrole carboxylic acid.
