A pyridine alkaloid isolated from various species of Nicotiana, particularly N. tabacum, the alkaloid crystallizes from EtOH in colourless needles. The aqueous solution is neutral to litmus. In contrast to the other alkaloids of tobacco, it furnishes a sparingly soluble, crystalline dichromate. It does not decolourize KMn04'
