What is MERCURIC ARSENATE?

Chemical properties

Yellow powder. Soluble in hydrochloric acid; slightly soluble in nitric acid; insoluble in water.

The Uses of MERCURIC ARSENATE

Waterproof paints, antifouling paints.

General Description

A yellow powder. Insoluble in water. Soluble in hydrochloric acid. Toxic by ingestion, skin absorption and inhalation. A strong irritant. Used to make waterproof paints.

Insoluble in water.

Reactivity Profile

MERCURIC ARSENATE is incompatible with the following: Acetylene, ammonia, chlorine dioxide, azides, calcium (amalgam formation), sodium carbide, lithium, rubidium, copper .

Hazard

Toxic by ingestion, inhalation, and skin absorption; strong irritant.

Health Hazard

Highly toxic, may be fatal if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through skin. Avoid any skin contact. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution.

Fire Hazard

Non-combustible, substance itself does not burn but may decompose upon heating to produce corrosive and/or toxic fumes. Containers may explode when heated. Runoff may pollute waterways.

Safety Profile

Confirmed human carcinogen. A poison. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of Hg and As. See also MERCURY and ARSENIC COMPOUNDS.
