What is LOPHILACRINE?

Description

An oily alkaloid present in Lobelia syphilitica L., the base is laevorotatory with [α]20D - 105° (c 8.43, EtOH). The alkaloid is soluble in Et20, CHCI3, EtOH and petroleum ether. Although the nitrate is crystalline with m.p. 83-4°C, neither the hydrochloride nor the sulphate are crystallizable.
