What is LOCHNIVERINE?
Description
The major periwinkle (Vinca major) elaborates a very large number of alkaloids,several of which possess highly complex structures. This comparatively simple base has been separated from the accompanying alkaloids by column chromatography and crystallizes well as colourless needles from AcOEt. The ultraviolet spectrum is typical of a ,a-carboline structure and the full structure has been established from the infrared, NMR and mass spectral data.
