What is lithium acetylide, compound with ethane-1,2-diamine?
General Description
Lithium acetylide-ethylene diamine complex is a crystalline solid. lithium acetylide, compound with ethane-1,2-diamine can absorb moisture from the air and spontaneously heat and ignite. lithium acetylide, compound with ethane-1,2-diamine reacts with water to form lithium hydroxide, a corrosive material, and acetylene, a flammable gas. The heat of this reaction may be sufficient to ignite the acetylene.
Air & Water Reactions

Reactivity Profile
A class of compounds very sensitive to shock, friction and heat. They explode readily producing no gas but intense heat. They are in a class with the fulminates and the azides as primary detonators. They must be kept cool and should be kept wet(ether)to be stored. They can react with metal powders (Cu, Ag) to form very sensitive detonators [Sax, 9th ed., 1996, p. 41].
Health Hazard
Inhalation or contact with vapors, substance or decomposition products may cause severe injury or death. May produce corrosive solutions on contact with water. Fire will produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Runoff from fire control may cause pollution.
Fire Hazard
Produce flammable gases on contact with water. May ignite on contact with water or moist air. Some react vigorously or explosively on contact with water. May be ignited by heat, sparks or flames. May re-ignite after fire is extinguished. Some are transported in highly flammable liquids. Runoff may create fire or explosion hazard.
