What is LIRINIDINE (N-methylcaaverine)?
Description
A second minor alkaloid isolated from Liriodendron tulipifera, this base has an aporphine structure which has been elucidated from chemical and spectroscopic data. The structure, as N-methylcaaverine has been confirmed by its preparation from the latter base by standard chemical methods. Lirinidine has been characterized as the crystalline hydrochloride which crystallizes from Et20-EtOH as colourless needles with m.p. 237 -9°C. This salt is optically active with a specific rotation of [α]D + 78°C (c 0.09, CHCL3).
