What is LEONTALBININE?

Description

Also isolated from Leontice alberti, this alkaloid forms colourless crystals from Et20. It is laevorotatory with [α]²¹_D - 135.5° (c 0.S5, EtOH) and gives a perchlorate, m.p. 245°C and the methiodide, m.p. 295°C. Treatment with LiAlH4 yields the deoxy derivative which may be hydrogenated with Pt02 in AcOH to give deoxydihydroleontalbinine, m.p. 65-70°C. Oxidation with chromic acid furnishes glutaric acid.
