What is L-GLUTAMIC ACID-13C5?
The Uses of L-GLUTAMIC ACID-13C5
L-Glutamic Acid-13C5,, is an isotope labelled derivative of L-Glutamic Acid (G596960), a non-essential amino acid. Its salt form (glutamate) is an important neurotransmitter that plays a key role in long-term potentiation and is important for learning and memory. It is also a key molecule in cellular metabolism.
Definition
ChEBI: L-glutamic acid is an optically active form of glutamic acid having L-configuration. It has a role as a nutraceutical, a micronutrient, an Escherichia coli metabolite, a mouse metabolite, a ferroptosis inducer and a neurotransmitter. It is a glutamine family amino acid, a proteinogenic amino acid, a glutamic acid and a L-alpha-amino acid. It is a conjugate acid of a L-glutamate(1-). It is an enantiomer of a D-glutamic acid.
General Description
Glutamic acid is an amino acid with an acidic side group. It works as a proton donor. Decarboxylation of glutamic acid results in the formation of GABA (γ aminobutyric acid), a potent neurotransmitter. Isotope labeled amino acids are required for the production of isotopically labeled proteins.
