What is KROMANTINE (Cromantine)?
Description
This base occurs in the bark of Aspidosperma album and is dextrorotatory having the following specific rotations: [α]D + 159° (c 0.19, CHC13) and [α]D + 143° (c 0.2, MeOH). The ultraviolet spectrum in MeOH has two absorption maxima at 227 and 276 nm. The structure of this base has not yet been elucidated but chemical evidence shows that it belongs to the dihydroindole class and contains two methoxyl groups, one acetyl group and one hydroxyl group in the molecule.
