What is KESSELRINGINE?

Description

This alkaloid also occurs in the corms of Colchicum kesselringii and in C. luteum Baker. It has a specific rotation of [α]D + 53.3° (c 3.0, MeOH) and forms a number of salts and derivatives, e.g. the hydrochloride, m.p. 252-3°C; perchlorate, m.p. 173-5°C; picrate, m.p. 176-SoC; methiodide, m.p. 236-7°C; O-acetate,m.p. 203-4uC; O-methyl ether, m.p. 198-200uC giving a hydriodide, m.p. 2S1-2°C and the benzyl derivative, m.p. IS7-9°C.
