What is Hippocasine N-oxide?
Description
Hippodamia caseyi also elaborates the N-oxide of the preceding alkaloid as a colourless oil having no definite boiling point. The base has been characterized as the crystalline hydrochloride wihch decomposes above 220°C without melting. The structure has been elucidated from the NMR spectrum and confirmed by Xray crystallography of the hydrochloride, the crystals being monoclinic with space group P2 1 and a = 10.0 II, b = 8.117, c = 8.312 A with Z = 2. This salt is optically active having a specific rotation of [α]25D + 14.8 u (c 0.73, MeOH).
