What is GROENLANDICINE (Alkaloid CG-B)?

Description

Coptis groenlandica elaborates this alkaloid which has been isolated as the tetrahydro derivative, m.p. 202°C. This derivative gives an ultraviolet spectrum in EtOH having an absorption maximum at 287 nm with a shoulder at 230 nm. In the presence of alkali there is a bathochromic shift to 245 and 292 nm.
