What is GOEBELINE?
Description
This dimeric alkaloid has been isolated from Sophora pachycarpa Schrenk. It yields colourless needles when crystallized from Et20 and is slightly laevorotatory having a specific rotation of [α]D - 13° (c 6.49, MeOH). A range of crystalline salts and derivatives has been prepared including the dihydrochloride, m.p. 346-8°C; hydrobromide, 360-2°C; hydriodide, m.p. 359-360°C; perchlorate, m.p. 310°C and the methiodide, m.p. 344-5°C.
