What is Glucocorticoids?
The Uses of Glucocorticoids
Many synthetic glucocorticoid derivatives are widely used as immunodepressants. Glucocorticoids (cortisone, prednisone, methylprednisolone, betamethasone, dexamethasone, triamcinolone, and others) are usually used in combination with other immunodepressants, especially in cases accompanied by inflammation.
Mechanism of action
Immunodepressive action of glucocorticoids is connected with a decreased level of lymphocytes, eosinophiles, and basophiles in the blood, suppression of antigen recognition, and with suppression of the phase of lymphocyte proliferation.
