4,5-Dihydroxynaphthalene-2,7-disulfonic acid disodium salt dihydrate, is used to improve the visualization of trichothecenes on developed TLC plates. It serves as an intermediate in the production of dyes, pigments, chelating reagents, sulfonic and sulfinic acids.
General Description
Chromotropic acid disodium salt dihydrate is a tan colored sodium salt.
Purification Methods
Recrystallise it from H2O or H2O by adding EtOH. It complexes with Ag, ClO3-, Cr, Hg, NO2 , -NO3 and Ti. [Beilstein 11 H 72, 11 I 307, 11 II 174, 11 III 174, 11 IV 576.]
