What is Barium Bromite?
Description
Only the dihydrate is known but there may be others. Like its strontium analogue,
barium bromite can be prepared as a stable compound
and so has found favor in Industry for preparing
sodium bromite in situ for use as a bleaching process
for rayon fibers.Barium bromites are surprisingly
stable compounds in the solid state. Thus, it is very suitable
for relatively inexpensive transportation since the oxidation
properties are suppressed.
Barium bromite is also useful
as an oxidizing agent, in general, and is particularly
advantageous because of its relative stability under
atmospheric conditions. In spite of this, barium bromite
has found little usage in Industry since the bromates are
more stable and easier to prepare.
