What is ALKALOID CL-A?

Description

This alkaloid is the major constituent of the alkaloidal content of the seeds of Crotaiaria iaburnifolia. The specific rotations that have been measured are: [α]_D²⁵ + 29.7° (EtOH) and [α]_D²⁵ - 19° (CHCI3). The base forms a crystalline methiodide, m.p. 220-2°C and a picrate as golden-yellow crystals, m.p. 222-4°C. The alkaloid has been shown to be a cyclic diester of the pyrrolizidine group with senecic acid as the acidic moiety and a necine having a methoxyl group at Col and a hydroxyl group at C-7.
