8-Fluorooctanoic acid is used in the synthesis of a monofluoro 3-?alkyl-?2-?hydroxy-?1,?4-?naphthoquinone as a potential anti-malarial drug. It is also used in site-specific fluorination of biomolecules catalyzed by lipoic acid ligase.
