Obtained by partial methylation of benzyl 2,4,6-tri-hydroxyphenyl ketone,
? with dimethyl sulfate in the presence of potassium carbonate in boiling acetone , for 1 h, (69%) or for 14 h (68%);
? with methyl iodide in the presence of potassium carbonate in refluxing acetone for 6 h.
