2-Iodoxybenzoic acid Structural

What is 2-Iodoxybenzoic acid?

Description

2-Iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX) is a reagent typically used to oxidize alcohols to aldehydes or ketones. IBX is not soluble in many common organic solvents. Dess-Martin Periodinane is closely related to IBX and has the major benefit of being much more soluble in various solvents. IBX is considered to possibly be shock sensitive.

Chemical properties

White to off-white powder, prills or agglomerates

The Uses of 2-Iodoxybenzoic acid

2-Iodoxybenzoic Acid is used in the oxidation of alcohols in organic synthesis. It is also frequently used in the preparation of Dess-Martin periodinane.
