Calcium chloride is an inorganic compound, a salt with the chemical formula CaCl2. It appears as white flakes or granules at room temperature and is extremely soluble in water. It has strong hygroscopicity and is one of the most hygroscopic materials. Calcium chloride desiccants operate in temperatures ranging from freezing to 80 °C or higher. Calcium chloride is commonly used in gravel road de-icing or dust control, in food products, or as an absorbent in desiccants.
