Severely irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Used is the manufacture of acetic anhydride, sorbic acid, cinnamic acids, chloroacetyl chloride and other materials. Readily polymerizes and cannot be shipped or stored. Is obtained instead as needed from diketene.
