Persistence and degradability
A screening study using an activated sludge inoculum and 2-amino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid at a concn of 1 mg/l resulted in 95-97% biodegradation over 108 days(1). At concns greater than 25 mg/l, 2-amino-1-naphthalenesulfonic was shown to be toxic to the microbes(1). 2-Amino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid, present at 100 mg/l, reached 4% of its theoretical BOD in 2 weeks using an activated sludge inoculum at 30 mg/l and the Japanese MITI test(2); however, this low oxygen consumption may be due to microbial toxicity(SRC). No biodegradation data was located for 2-amino-1-naphthalenesulfonic in soil or water(SRC).
