Caprolactam (CPL) is an organic compound with the formula (CH2)5C(O)NH. This colourless solid is a lactam (a cyclic amide) of caproic acid. Approximately 4.5 billion kilograms are produced annually. Caprolactam is the precursor to Nylon 6, a widely used synthetic polymer.
Application
Widely used in gears, bearings, tubes, medical devices and electrical insulation materials. The pharmaceutical industry USES it as a raw material for synthetic drugs. The organic industry is used to make lysine, etc. Used as a solvent in chemical production. Used in analytical chemistry as a stationary liquid for gas chromatography, etc. Used for preparing caprolactam resin, polycaprolactam fiber and artificial leather.
