What is VOACAMINE (Voacanginine)?
Description
The major constituent of Voacanga africana, this complex alkaloid also occurs in various species of Stemmadenia. It is obtained as colourless prisms or needles when recrystallized from a mixture of MeOH and Me2CO and is laevorotatory with [α]D - 52° (c 1.0, CHCI3). Only sparingly soluble in EtOH or MeOH, it dissolves readily in Me2CO and CHCI3. The structure has been determined from the infrared, NMR and mass spectra.
