What is VINCANIDINE?

Description

Vinca erecta Rgl. et Schmalh yields this alkaloid which melts, with decomposition, over a wide range of temperature. It is laevorotatory having a specific rotation of [α]_D - 848.6° (c 0.853, MeOH) and gives a series salts and derivatives including the hydrochloride, m.p. 175°C; hydrobromide, m.p. 169-170°C; picrate, m.p. 142°C and the methiodide, m.p. 312-5°C.
