What is Valtropine?

Description

Isolated from Duboisia leichardtii this alkaloid is a colourless oil which is slightly dextrorotatory with[α]D + 8.3°. It gives crystalline salts, e.g. the hydrobromide, m.p. 212°C; [α]D + 6.2°; aurichloride, m.p. 124°C and the picrate, m.p. 227°C. On alkaline hydrolysis it furnishes tropeine and a-methylbutyric acid.
